The year’s first measurable snowfall resulted in slick roadways and black ice in some areas leading to a number of accidents in recent days. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported as a result of the numerous local property damage and slide off accidents.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday, Rushville resident, 17-year-old Dalton Miller, walked away from a rollover accident on SR 44 near CR 350E, after he lost control of his 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck.
Miller was eastbound on SR 44 when, according to investigating officer Rush County deputy Terry Drake, the young driver hit a patch of “black ice” causing the vehicle to spin.
“The driver stated the vehicle lost traction and spun 180 degrees into the westbound lane,” Drake said.
The deputy continued by saying that the truck then left the north side of the road and entered a shallow ditch causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side before coming to rest.
Prior to law enforcement and emergency responder’s arrival on the scene, Miller exited the vehicle.
Miller was checked by medical personnel from RMH Ambulance and did required additional medical attention.
Responding to the scene were units from the RCSD, Indiana State Police, RMH Ambulance and Davis Towing.
