RUSHVILLE — The Mini-mart in Manilla has been the target of multiple break-ins in recent weeks. A number of items and an undisclosed amount of cash were taken from the business.

Investigators recently got a break in the case following the Feb. 7 arrest of Franklin County resident Jesse J. Sparks, 20.

Rush County Sheriff’s Department Detective Richard Gosser said a major break in the case was realized when Sparks was seen on a video surveillance tape attempting to redeem a stolen lottery ticket at an undisclosed Greensburg location.

“When we realized that lottery tickets had been taken in the burglary, we contacted the Hoosier Lottery and found that one of the missing tickets had been redeemed in a Decatur County location. Mike Bare from the Hoosier Lottery was instrumental in obtaining a search warrant for the store’s security tape, and that led us to Sparks,” Gosser said.

Sparks was arrested on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property. He currently is being held in the Rush County Jail on a $60,000 bond.

Gosser noted that Rushville Police Department Detective Randy Meek was also instrumental in the ongoing investigation.
