Manna Mission helping feed the hungry

Free meal last Tuesday of every month

Rushville Republican

RUSHVILLE — The Manna Mission is a local ministry developed through an outreach study which began at Main Street Christian Church in late 2011.

The Manna Mission was developed to provide healthy, appetizing meals at no cost to those in our community who are in need and to provide a place of hospitality and companionship, regardless of faith.

The Manna Mission served its first meals Dec. 6, 2011, when eight people were served. The program is now entering into its second year and is serving approximately 200 meals each month.

Currently, the Manna Mission is providing a meal from 5 to 7 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month in the Main Street Christian Church dining room.  Main Street Christian Church has an ideal set-up to be able to prepare and serve meals. The church recently installed a new kitchen and dining area with room for refrigeration, a separate ice-maker, freezer, and professional style ovens.

The church also has two large dining areas for seating guests with a separate door to the kitchen and dining area.

There is also handicap access available with an elevator in the church that leads to the dining area.

The Manna Mission also offers carry-out meals to those who do not want to dine in.

The Manna Mission is sustained by compassionate and committed volunteers and by generous contributions and donations.

Currently, a majority of the donations and volunteers for the meals are made possible by MSCC members, but the Manna Mission team also has several volunteers and donations from  outside the church that contribute monthly to the mission.

As of now, the Manna Mission only serves one meal on the last Tuesday of every month; however, organizers would eventually like to be able to provide at least one meal per week to those in need.

The Manna Mission team is always looking for individuals or families in need of this mission as well as individuals or businesses willing to donate their time or resources to help.
