---- — Earlier this week, the local CVS was recognized for their continuing efforts to generate care package items for those individuals in the military. CVS employees have been diligent in asking if customers would like to contribute to purchasing (add on) items such as gummy bears, hand sanitizer, pretzels, nuts and other items for military personnel. Once paid for and collected the items are passed on to USO who in turn distributes the items to service men and women.

The United Service Organization Inc. is a nonprofit organization which provides programs, services and entertainment to U.S. military troops and their families throughout the world.

In recognition of the local effort of CVS and those of the local DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution, the Executive Director of the Indiana USO Doug Warnecke presented a plaque thanking the local business for their efforts.

“This store has done a marvelous job and one better than most as evident by this plaque. Everyone in the military is very grateful for their efforts,” Warnecke said.

He continued by saying that everything collected is given to the troops and even the most seemingly little thing such as a bag of peanuts is well received.

Local CVS store manager, Suzanne Runkle was quick to add that the effort and recognition could not have been accomplished without the help of the citizens of Rushville and Rush County.

“The people of this community are very caring and giving in nature, this is their award too,” Runkle said.
