Weather causes rash of accidents

RUSHVILLE —

Fire, medical and county law enforcement personnel responded to a number of accidents in the south-central part of Rush County Thursday. Responders had difficulty locating the first of two rollover accidents when the caller could not give the exact location of their rolled vehicle, advising only that they were north of SR 244 and south of Rushville and that they involved persons pinned inside the vehicle. Responders located a 2011 Dodge Ram truck south of CR 450 on SR 3 a short time later. The driver, Joe Knoy, 60, of Rushville, and his wife were northbound on the state road when they struck a slick spot on the road, causing Knoy to lose control of his vehicle. The truck traveled a short distance before entering a side ditch on the east side of the road and then spinning and rolling onto the driver’s side, trapping Knoy and his wife in the vehicle. Responders had a difficult time gaining access to the Rushville couple; while medical personnel climbed through the elevated passenger side door other responders cut the windshield to gain access inside the vehicle at ground level. Following treatment at the scene the couple refused additional treatment. Shortly after arriving on the scene at this accident law enforcement and medical personnel were dispatched to a second rollover accident a short distance away on SR 3 near CR 600S. According to the accident report, Erica J. Krum, 26, of Lawrenceburg, was traveling north when she lost control of her 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck. The vehicle slid across the southbound lane before entering a ditch on the west side of the state road and rolling onto the passenger side. Krum was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and was uninjured. A second storm system arrived locally Friday and again made driving conditions tricky for area motorist.
