RUSHVILLE — A misguided deer made a brief stop at the Village Pantry located on West Third Street Tuesday evening shortly after 6 p.m.

The animal crashed into the store’s front door and the inward-swinging door opened, allowing the animal to enter the business. The startled deer then dislodged product from a number of shelves prior to going through an opening and entering the back counter area, jumping the counter and then jumping through a large window and exiting the establishment.

No injuries were reported, although a couple of customers who entered the store and saw the deer quickly exited.

The deer was killed a short time later by RPD officer Todd Click in the back yard of a nearby residence.

“The store attendant was quite calm when she called 911 and reported the deer in the store,” chief of police Craig Tucker said.
