The Rushville Parks and Recreation Board met recently to hear plans for the summer season regarding Waggener Community Pool.
The pool will open for the season Saturday, May 25 during Memorial Day Weekend. There will be a work/clean day at the pool May 19. The pool will be closed June 2 for RCHS graduation.
This will be a short swim season with school starting earlier this year. Teachers go back to school on Monday, Aug. 4 with classes starting Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Once school starts there will not be adequate staff to man the pool.
A motion was made to close the pool Sunday, Aug. 3, with hours from noon to 5 p.m. as the last day to swim. Staff will stay after 5 p.m. to clean and close the pool. The motion carried.
Swim Lessons will be July 15 to 18 with July 19 as the make-up day and again July 22 to 25 with July 26 as the make-up day.
July 13 will be Raymond Gibson Day and everyone will swim free.
June 9 to 15 will be Food Pantry Days at the pool. Those who bring canned goods for the Food Pantry will get a $1 off admission.

President Sue Otte called the meeting to order with members Will St. John, Aaron Gurley, Paul Barada and Dave Malson present. James Zachery was absent.
Kaster presented the board with figures of what was sold last year in the concession stand and items that will be sold this year. Not everything last year will be sold this year.
Kaster then shared with the group that daily admissions are right on target. She would like to continue with our pricing as is at $3 for children and $4 for adults. A vote to that effect passed.
Parks director Danny Mathews received board approval to hire Delana Miller for the flower garden maintenance position. She is a Master Gardener and will work 25 to 29 hours a week and take care of the pots downtown and all flower beds at $8 an hour.
The board also approved Kaster’s proposal to do a chair rental program this summer. Visitors will be able to rent a chair for $3 to sun bath on. Once they are done they would return the chair and get $2 back, leaving the cost at $1 for the chair per day. Kopf suggested doing a potential fundraiser and come up with ideas so new chairs can be purchased.
