Property tax time is here

RUSHVILLE — Rush County Treasurer Cindy Humphrey reminds Rush County taxpayers that their property tax bills went in the mail March 28. The deadline to pay spring property taxes in Rush County is Friday, May 10.

If you have not received your bill by April 12 call the Treasurer’s office at 932-2386 or e-mail the office at

There are several options to pay Rush County taxes; cash, checks, money orders, credit cards and debit cards are acceptable. All checks should be payable to the Rush County Treasurer.

The Treasurer’s office, which is located on the second floor of the Rush County Courthouse, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Main Street entrance to the courthouse is handicap accessible.

All MainSource Bank branches continue to accept payment at their banking institutions. Those locations include downtown, Foster Heights, and Knightstown. Only full payments as stated on the bill may be accepted at the bank and your canceled check will serve as your receipt.

Taxes may be paid by mail if postmarked by May 10.

Mail statements to P.O. Box 291, Rushville, IN 46173 and include the coupon (A) or coupons (A and B) with your payment. Remember to keep coupon (C) as your receipt when paying by mail.

“We are offering a new user-friendly online payment and tax data service hosted by IFreedom. Credit and debit cards are accepted at or by calling 1-800-809-5849. Access your tax bill information simply by entering your name. There is no fee for tax information, but there is a fee of 2.95 percent of your bill for tax payments with a $3 minimum for online payments and a $5 minimum for telephone payments,” Humphrey said.

Both spring and fall bills have been mailed and can be paid anytime.

You should retain your (B) statement for the fall payment, which will be due Nov. 12, 2013.

When paying in person take all tax papers with you.

Questions may be directed to the Treasurer’s office at 765-932-2386 or
