Rush County to help Mountain Mission School

RUSHVILLE — A tradition that started in Rush County in 1947 and still continues today is the annual trip to Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Va. Local organizers have announced that the annual benevolent trip will be happening again this Thanksgiving weekend.

Mountain Mission School is a Christian children’s home founded in 1921 and accepts children who have lost one or both parents, children whose parents cannot provide for them and those who are wards of the court. The school receives no money from the government and runs solely on donations. Since 1921, MMS has cared for more than 20,000 children. Some stay just a year or two, while others stay from infancy into adulthood. MMS considers all to be lifelong members of the family!

Each year local residents gather donations and take them to this very special school and residence located in the Appalachian Mountains. The donations include money raised for shoes, washing machines and dryers, specialty items and more. The school sends a list of supplies that are needed by the children on each dorm floor and many of those needs are filled each year.

Items suggested by the school as those needed by students this year are:

Money for Shoe Fund

Money for Repair or Replacement of Commercial Washers and Dryers

Shampoo

Conditioner

Body Wash (Boys and Girls)

Deodorant (Boys and Girls)

Lotion

Antibacterial Hand Soap

Clorox Wipes

Trash Bags

Goodnights (Med/Lrg/X-L)

Diapers (Size 4 & 5)

Individual Wrapped Snacks

Juice Boxes

Napkins

Paper Plates

Bowls

Cups

Plastic Forks & Spoons

Paint Brushes & Rollers

Paint Pans & Liners

Painting Tape

Liquid Nails
