---- — The Olive Garden and Barnes & Noble Bookstore were the rewards for a special group of Rush County students.

Students in grades 3 through 6 who read 20 books from the Young Hoosier reading list were eligible to take this reward trip.

“I usually have approximately 150 to 180 students go each year. However, this year we had 196 students who met the reading qualifications for this event. This is outstanding and speaks highly of the students and teachers who motivate them to read,” Sharon Wasson, media specialist, said.

Each student received a special T-shirt and gift card to purchase a book. They were treated to dinner at the Olive Garden and returned home knowing they had met the reading challenge in a big way.

Summer is a great time to keep reading alive for all students. Your local library has a good selection of books. Be sure to stop by and take home a few to read. If you would like to find titles on the Young Hoosier reading list go to rcs.rushville.k12.in.us. There you can visit the media center on each school’s website and view the current reading list.
