---- — A fire of unknown origin claimed a barn in the 4000 block of Hunt Road southwest of Rushville Thursday afternoon. Billowing black smoke could be seen for miles and was fanned by a southwestern wind. The blaze was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. and firefighters reported the blaze under control nearly 40 minutes later at 1:10 p.m.
No injuries were reported, although the structure was considered a total loss. Responding to the call for mutual aid were units from Rushville Township, Rushville City, Anderson Township and Posey Township.
As a result of the number of emergency responders, a one-mile section of SR 3 south of town was closed for nearly an hour with motorist rerouted around the area. SR 3 was reopened to north and southbound traffic shortly before 1:30 p.m.
