During the past few days, a number of yards throughout Rushville have been filled with heavy trash items no longer wanted. Beginning Monday, city street department employees will begin removing those items.
The effort began a number of years ago as a means to remove large, no longer wanted household items from Rushville residences. According to city street commissioner, Jemmy Miller, city employees will pick up furniture (couches, chairs, tables, etc.), mattresses, washers and dryers, dishwashers, carpet, small amounts of construction material, and other small household items.
There, however, is a limit to what will be collected. Miller continued by saying that paint, televisions, computers, car and truck batteries, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and tires will not be picked up. Those items can be taken by residents to the Smiley Avenue transfer site the first Saturday of each month and will be disposed of at no cost.
