Marsha Dyer, Rachel Brown, Shannon Spence, Kelly Land and Bill Davis, the five members of the Carthage Town Board, met earlier this month and were faced with a number of items requiring their attention.
Water and Sewer superintendent Josh Douglas said that a flush and water flow test of fire hydrants in the rural community needs to be undertaken and completed as soon as possible. Douglas presented board members with a estimate of $2,650 from KMP Hydrant Services to conduct the project.
According to Douglas, the test will be conducted on all 47 of the community’s fire hydrants.
Following a brief discussion, a motion passed with testing to be completed in the coming weeks.
Town board attorney Adam Forest introduced two ordinance to the board regarding health and sanitation and a second ordinance addressing general rules and regulations within Chapter 52 of the Water and Public Works codes. The ordinances will be revisited during the April meeting.
In a final and unrelated matter, board members voted to financially compensate Rush County Sheriff’s Department deputies for their service to the rural community in recent months.
Prior to the recent hire of current Knightstown Chief of Police Danny Baker as the new Carthage Town Marshall, deputies Alan Rice, Terry Drake, Joshua Brinson and Daniel Meyer worked in the community.
The board voted to compensate the deputies for their services during the nearly four month interim between the December release of former marshal Clint Ellis and Baker’s hiring.
