Legacy Fund to benefit from golf outing

Rush County Schools’ Legacy Fund will benefit from future golf outings held in memory of former RCHS graduate Jason Kuhn.

At the most recent meeting of the local school board, Legacy Fund director Marianne Scott shared information about a new fundraising initiative for the Legacy Fund.

She announced that future proceeds from the Jason Kuhn Golf Scramble will be directed to the Legacy Fund – Rush County Schools. This event has a 15 year history of gifting two scholarships to Franklin College and extensive support of the Sheehan Cancer Unit at Rush Memorial Hospital (over $100,000 in the past 15 years).

“The Legacy Fund is thrilled to continue this event in the memory of Jason Kuhn and continue the support to Rush County through Rush County Schools,” Scott said.

“We are excited about the direction the scramble will be going and look forward to its continued evolution,” Andy Wilson said. Wilson is one of the original founders of the event; he, Adam Decker and Mark Steczyk will continue to support and assist with the annual event.

Scott said the goal is for the outing to raise $40,000 for the Legacy Fund in the next five years.

Scott is challenging each school in the RCS system to put together a team for next year’s scramble, which is scheduled for June 14, 2014. She hopes to have 20 teams total.

Kuhn, a Manilla-area resident, lost his battle with cancer Feb. 9, 1999. He was a ‘93 graduate of RCHS and a ‘97 graduate of Franklin College.

Shortly after his death, Wilson, Decker and Steczyk organized and hosted the first in a string of golf outing fundraisers in Jason’s memory.

Funds from previous efforts have been used to provide two annual scholarships at Franklin College, to assist the American Cancer Society and to help the Sheehan Cancer Care Center at Rush Memorial Hospital.
