Parenting Counts program fast approaching

Rushville — We all know that babies do not come with instruction manuals and that every child is unique. How are parents supposed to know how to parent? Does it really make a difference?

Yes, Parenting Counts, and mothers and fathers can learn more about their child to help them become better parents.

Extension Educator Gracie Marlatt will be presenting a four session series based on the Parenting Counts curriculum from the Talaris Institute. The curriculum is geared to children through age 5. The sessions will be held Feb. 27, March 6, 13 and 20 and is open to all family members interested in raising socially and emotionally healthy children.

Sponsored by Purdue Extension and the Rush County Parenting Council the classes will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church’s Education Building at 426 N. Morgan Street, Rushville. The classes will run from 6:30 to 8 pm. Class size is limited to eight families and pre-registration is required. The cost is just $10 per family for the entire series. Arrangements are being made for child care to be provided by volunteers from the Phoenix House. Reserve your spot in the class by contacting the Rush County Cooperative Extension Office, located in Room 103 of the Courthouse. Reservations are requested by 4:00 pm on February 20. For more information call 932-5974 or email gnmarlat@purdue.edu. Checks should be made to Purdue CES Rush County.

This series focuses on the social and emotional development of children through age 5. There are few times that rival the growth and development of a child than from birth to age five. Research has shown that parenting during the early years is the dominant influence in all of a child’s relationships and on lifelong learning. Yet many parents are unaware of the importance of their role. The mission of Parenting Counts is to support parents and caregivers in raising socially and emotionally healthy children. Purdue is an affirmative action/equal opportunity institution. If you require auxiliary aids and services due to a disability, please contact us at least one week prior to the event.
