E. Ind. fire kills resident of apartment complex

CONNERSVILLE — An overnight fire at an eastern Indiana apartment building has killed one resident at the complex and injured two firefighters.

Connersville Fire Chief Troy Tipton tells WTHR-TV ( ) the man who died in the fire was found collapsed in the hallway outside his second-floor unit at Turtle Creek Apartments. The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

Tipton says the fire that erupted late Tuesday night was contained to the victim's apartment and the unit directly above it.

Two firefighters were treated and released from a local hospital, one for smoke inhalation and the other for an injury suffered in a fall.

The fire chief says the cause of the fire in the city about 50 miles east of Indianapolis remains under investigation.
