Clean Green Rush news

The local solid waste district will offer a free three hour, on-site document shredding event Saturday at Riverside Park Amphitheater. According to director Carole Yeend, the free event will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon.

Lodge rededication

Orange Lodge 234 will hold a rededication at the Masonic Building located at 8398 West CR 400S, Orange, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. The lodge is celebrating 153 years and an oyster meal will follow the rededication. All Masons are welcome to attend.

TUESDAY (11/12)

• Rush County’s Annual Agriculture Outlook Dinner Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Root Building on the Rush County Fairgrounds. Dr. Chris Hurt of Purdue’s Ag Economics Department, will be the featured speaker, along with Susan Houston of the Rush/Shelby County FSA. Reservations are required for the complimentary meal. WEDNESDAY (11/13)

• The Rush County Health Department will hold their next Senior Screening from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Rush County Senior Center. This is available to all Rush County senior citizens at no cost. Information: 932-3103.

THURSDAY (11/14)

• In response to numerous requests, the Economic & Community Development Corporation and the Rush County Chamber of Commerce have partnered with the East Central Small Business Development Center to offer “Social Media 101 – Where Do I Start?” Space is limited so register soon for this event that will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 14, at the Chamber office, 315 N. • Rush County Historical Society’s fall dinner and program at 6 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Cost is $13 each per member and $15 each per non-member of the Society. Reservations due to Mrs. Phyllis Fecher at (765) 932-1810 by Nov. 8.

• All local 1118 UAW retiree pitch in dinner at 11:30 a.m. at the Eastside Methodist Church in Connersville. Please bring a covered dish to share. Drinks and plates provided. Come alone or bring spouse/friend. Widows are welcome.

FRIDAY (11/15)

• The Three Musketeers will open to audiences in November with tickets now available. Show dates and times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 2 p.m. Sunday Nov. 17. Tickets are $7 each with reserved seating in the Laughline Center for the Performing Arts on the RCHS campus. Tickets may be purchased from any cast member or by e-mailing Jennie Tague at taguej@rushville.k12.in.us or by calling her at RCHS at 932-3901 ext. 258.

• The Rushville Eagles will host Bingo on Fridays at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 2 p.m. The community is invited. Information: 765-561-7472.

SATURDAY (11/16)

• Rush County Players hosts Family Movie Night. To help us get in the Wizard of Oz spirit for our approaching Christmas in the Land of Oz, we will be showing Oz, The Great and Powerful. Admission: $3 per seat. Refreshments will be available to purchase. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the movie beginning at 7 p.m. Venue: RCP, 306 N. Main Street, Rushville.

• Fundraiser BBQ meal for the Carthage Henry Henley Library from 4 to 7 p.m. Meal and entertainment at the Carthage Community Center. Meal includes: Pork BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw or applesause and homemmade dessert. Adults $10. Children 8 and under $4. Dusty Miller will be playing music around 5 p.m.

• Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

SUNDAY (11/17)

• The Arc of Rush Co. will be holding it’s annual ‘Wheelcheir Bowling’ event at Rushville Bowl. This event is being held to raise awareness and money, but leave you with a better understanding of physical challenges while having a good time! Businesses, clubs, families and friends with a team of 4 or 5 are invited to try. Everyone involved will be bowling from a wheelchair! We supply the chairs - you supply the sponsorship (corporate - $125, individual -$25). Free gifts to everyone and door prizes drawn throughout the day. MONDAY (11/18)

• Rushville Eagle Lodge F.O.E. #2036 special meeting concerning memberships, new memberships, financial matters and non smoking ban at 7 p.m. following the Trustees meeting. Members are encouraged to attend.

WEDNESDAY (11/20)

• Meridian Health Services invites the community to tour their facilities at 509 Conrad Harcourt Way, Rushville, and meet the medical staff for a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. They will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. for the public to visit. Flue glucose/blood sugar screenings. Meridian Health Services was formerly Family Health Services. Please RSVP by calling 932-3699 no later than Nov. 18.

• Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the home of Evonne Kuhn. Lori Kuhn will serve as co-hostess. Marilyn White will give devotions. Roll Call: What do you collect? A program on “Marbles” will be given by special guest, Linda Adkins. Members are reminded to bring monetary donations for food pantry.

• RCP’s Sweet Holiday Throw-Down. Rush County Players is sponsoring a Christmas Dessert Bake off to be held during “Christmas on Main” at 7:30 p.m. Bake your FINEST Holiday dessert and see if you’ve got what it takes to own this throw-down! $10 entry fee to benefit RCP. • Deanna Gwinnup will be retiring after 31 years of service at the Rush/Shelby Farm Service Agency. An open house will be held in her honor from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Manilla USDA Service Center, 2779 S 840 W, Manilla.

DECEMBER

MONDAY (12/2)

• Gleaners moving to winter location. On Monday, Dec. 2, in cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Rush County Fairgrounds, just west of the RCHS building. This location will be utilized from November through April for distribution to local residents. The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into. Gleaners Mobile Food Bank returns the first Monday of each month.

TUESDAY (12/3)

• The first Tuesday of every month a free health check is available at Miller’s Merry Manor, 2 to 3 p.m. Blood Pressure, blood sugar and weight checks. Refreshments will be available.

THURSDAY (12/5)

• The Rushville Consolidated High School Choral Department will present their Madrigals Performances and Dinners Dec. 5-8.

FRIDAY (12/6)

• RCP’s annual ‘kids only’ show Christmas in the Land of Oz at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8., at the Root Building at the 4-H Rush County Fairgrounds. Admission: $10 per adult, $5 per student. Discounted tickets are available through membership levels and the membership drive is currently underway.

• Elementary School age student dance from 6-8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Rush County. $3 per person. D.J. Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club.

• Community Bingo at Miller’s Merry Manor on the first Friday of each month at 2 p.m. Free and open to the public! Join us for an hour of fun and a chance to win prizes! Please call 765-932-4127 with any questions.

• Walnut Ridge Friends, Carthage, is pleased to host its annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ercell Beaver Community Center, Carthage. “Sweet Shop” with homemade cookies and candy by the pound; homemade arts and crafts, jams and jellies, and assorted gifts and Christmas decor. Lunch served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. features BOJO’s pulled pork BBQ and sides. Santa arrives by horse-drawn wagon at 11 a.m. Kids are invited to talk with Santa and adults to take your own photos.

• The Rushville Consolidated High School Choral Department will present their Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts on the RCHS campus featuring all choirs.

• Rush County Chorale performances Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 at Center Christian Church and the Rushville Presbyterian Church. No ticket sales. Details to be announced.

MONDAY (12/23)

• Rush County Schools Christmas Break begins. Students return to school on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

• Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue. Join in making this a Clean, Green Rush County.

• The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

• In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents. • Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.
