RUSHVILLE — A report of a single-vehicle injury accident was received at the Rush County Sheriff’s Department shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday and resulted in multiple departments responding to the 3500 block of South SR 3.

Once on the scene, responders found a 2007 Chevrolet in the eastbound emergency lane missing its right rear tire.

The driver, Richard Barker, 29, of Holton, said he was traveling northbound when all of a sudden the vehicle began to shake violently prior to the entire wheel dislodging from the axel.

Barker was able to maintain control of the vehicle and came to a stop nearly 200 yards later.

A female passenger in the car complained of back and neck pain. Following treatment at the scene, the unidentified woman was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital for what were described as minor injuries.

Responding to the scene were the Rushville Township Volunteer Fire Department, RCSD, RMH Ambulance and Davis Towing.

As a result of the accident, SR 3 was reduced to a single lane for nearly 30 minutes in the area.
