Preparations have been made, teams have been formed and beginning at 6 p.m. today participants in this year’s local American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraising event will gather in South Veterans Memorial Park for the 24-hour event.
Local organizers are excited about the “rock and roll” theme; this year’s event that will feature music of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s!
The 2013 event marks the return of the local Relay to Father’s Day weekend with some minor changes.
Organizer Julie Mann said that although the Relay will being at 6 p.m. Friday, the opening ceremony will be held Saturday morning. For 24 hours, team members will walk the fitness trail day, evening and night to demonstrate the idea that cancer does not take a break.
Throughout the event, team members will also host rock and roll themed booths.
Rush County is a part of the Great Lakes Division of the American Cancer Society and this year’s local fundraising goal was set at $35,000.
The public is asked to attend and visit the many booths and special events held throughout the day and evening hours.
