Vehicles collide south of Rushville

RUSHVILLE — A report of a two-vehicle accident shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday resulted in multiple emergency responders converging on the 1900 block of South SR 3 near the intersection of Base Road.

Prior to emergency personnel’s arrival, both drivers - Mary Kate Amos, 18, of Rushville, and Keith Purcell, 20, of Connersville, exited their vehicles.

Rush County deputy sheriff Duane Raab said both vehicle were southbound at the time of the collision. The Amos vehicle, a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, had come to a stop and was waiting for northbound traffic to clear before turning south onto Base Road; her vehicle was struck by Purcell’s 2000 Toyota Celica.

The force of the impact rendered both vehicle inoperable.

Both drivers were treated at the scene by medical personnel from RMH. They refused additional treatment and were released at the scene.

Purcell was cited for traveling too closely.

SR 3 was reduced to a single lane for nearly 40 minutes before being reopened at 2:45 p.m.

Responding to the accident were units from the Rushville Fire Department, RPD, RCSD, RMH Ambulance and Davis Towing.
