Rushville man killed in State Road 3 accident

---- — GREENSBURG – A Rushville man was killed and three other individuals were injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 3, near Carver Street, Thursday morning.

According to a press release from the Indiana State Police (ISP), the accident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. when a southbound red 2005 Pontiac Vibe being driven by Linda L. Phillips, 57, of Rushville, failed to yield at a green light on State Road 3 and turned left onto Carver Street into the path of a northbound white 2005 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Margaret L. Folkman, 55, of Batesville.

The Suburban struck the Vibe on the passenger side. Phillips’ husband, Stephen B. Phillips, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple injuries.

Decatur County Coroner Charity Banks ruled that Phillips died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

Linda Phillips was airlifted from the scene to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with severe chest injuries.

Folkman and her passenger, Carol A. Firsich, 77, of Greensburg, were both taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle to be examined for pain in their lower extremities.

ISP Trooper Chris Howell, the lead investigator in the case, was assisted by fellow Trooper David Noah, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, the Greensburg Police Department, the Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS and the Decatur County Coroner.

The investigation is ongoing.
