---- — Following Monday’s meeting, the trio of Bruce Levi, Mark Bacon and Ken Masters have two remaining county commissioner meetings for the year, Dec. 16 and Dec 30.

It was announced this week that beginning with the Jan. 13 meeting, county commissioner meetings will be held in the Assembly Room of the courthouse. The current commissioner room will be utilized by EMA and the county IT next year.

For the second time in a month and speaking on behalf of the Raleigh Fire Department, Verlin Custer came before the county leaders requesting a multi-year contract to provide fire and basic ambulance service to the northeastern part of the county. Currently, county volunteer fire departments Anderson Township, Arlington, Carthage, Glenwood and Manilla and are contracted on a annual basis for their services.

“We all know of the ambulance situation here in Rushville and we are trying to get some stability,” Custer said.

The commissioners said they and the county legal advisor are currently looking at all the contracts and the matter will be addressed during the Dec. 16 meeting.

In a final matter, County ECDC director John McCane said that paperwork is currently completed to submit to the state for the Cherry Street extension project. He continued by saying that after speaking with state officials, a decision was made separate the project into two phases.

McCane then requested the county leader’s signature on a document to be submitted to the state stating their support of the project.

It is McCane’s contention that as a result of the project, drainage issues will be improved in the area. According to county surveyor Marvin Rees, any infrastructure to the area will be an improvement.

“It’s a big project and will take some time to complete,” McCane said.
