Community "Gift Lift" underway

Rushville Republican

---- —

Mental Health America in Rush County has placed a “Gift Lift Christmas Tree” in the first floor hallway of the county courthouse. The tree is adorned with name tags and gift wishes from residents of local extended living facilities (ECF): Flatrock River Lodge and Miller’s Merry Manor.

The tags will hang on the tree through November with each tag having the name and the gift(s) the resident would like to receive.

After selecting a tag or tags, sign the line next to that person’s name on the sheet (located near the tree). Return the unwrapped gift to the Mental Health Office or the Extension Office located in the courthouse on or prior to Dec. 2.

The gifts will be wrapped in decorated gift bags and distributed to the nursing home residents during the facilities holiday parties.

According to organizers, in past years this effort has added much joy to the season for the ECF residents.

For those wishing to contribute to the effort but are unable to shop for specific gifts, monetary donations will be accepted; with checks payable to Mental Health America in Rush County and mailed to MHA in Rush County, 939 South SR 3, Rushville, 46173. Volunteers will shop, wrap and deliver the gifts in time for the “almost forgotten ones” to have a merry Christmas.

For additional information regarding the effort, Executive Director Pat Springman can be contacted at (765) 932-3721 or President Rita Emsweller can be reached at (765) 932-4438.
