---- — INDIANAPOLIS – Managed Health Services (MHS) is sponsoring the American Lung Association’s (ALA) 2014 Healthy Lung Expo, a comprehensive lung-health educational conference taking place on Tuesday, April 15 at the Indianapolis Marriott North.

This annual Healthy Lung Expo is a one-day conference with three separate tracks — one targeting lung health patients and their families, one targeting lung health professionals and one specifically focused on asthma.

The patient education program is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring sessions for patients and caregivers focused on Alpha-1 research, support groups as well as a survivor’s perspective.

The professional education program is 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for nurses and respiratory therapists. Sessions highlight childhood origins of adult lung disease; treatment options for lung cancer; and new and improved devices and treatments. Caitlin Finnegan Priest, MPH, is the director of policy and communication at Covering Kids & Families of Indiana, a MHS community partner. She will provide a keynote presentation titled “The Affordable Care Act in Indiana: Issues, Updates and Next Steps.”

There will also be an additional track this year focused on asthma for asthma educators and professionals. This program is 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and highlights asthma management and education. MHS Medical Director Dr. John Ellis will be a featured speaker on a panel of asthma experts addressing the impact of asthma in Indiana.

“The Healthy Lung Expo is an opportunity for patients, caregivers and health care providers to learn more about the latest trends, resources and research surrounding lung health,” said Meghan McNulty, Manager of Mission Services of the ALA in Indiana. “All attendees will be treated to a day full of inspirational messages, education, exhibits, a luncheon and door prizes.”

“We look forward to participating both as a sponsor and an exhibitor for the 2014 Healthy Lung Expo,” said MHS CEO Patrick Rooney. “This conference offers the chance for both patients and professionals to learn about exciting research in the world of lung health as well as hear from some inspirational speakers. We hope attendees will come away from the Healthy Lung Expo having learned something new and made some connections.”

Registration is $5 for patients; $25 for students; and $75 for professionals. Registration cost includes all meals, program materials, presentations and access to exhibitors.
