The annual Kindergarten Round Up for Rush County Schools is Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8 a.m. to noon at Rushville Elementary School West. Parents who have students that will be age 5 by Aug. 1, 2014 should plan on attending this event. Parents will want to enter the Kindergarten Round Up by using the Rushville Elementary School West front sidewalk (sidewalk directly across the street from the Boys and Girls Club.)
In preparation for this event, parents need to bring their perspective kindergartener, immunization records and birth certificate. Immunizations will be given by Meridian Health Services. Parents need to bring proof of insurance with them. If a student’s insurance is not available or does not cover immunizations, arrangements for free shots will be made. Free vision screening will be provided by Dr. Sickbert and Dr. Fenimore and hearing screenings will be provided by Rush County Schools’ speech andlanguage teachers.
“Parent’s don’t realize how important registration is,” Superintendent Dr. Williams stated. “This helps us figure out how many personnel we need to have. It is hard to get everything mapped out when parents register last minute. It’s very important to attend the roundup to help us out. When we are figuring out staff numbers it messes with teacher’s jobs. We don’t want to do this or have them worrying. That is why it’s important to get an idea of numbers now. We have a 26 million dollar operation that doesn’t just turn on a dime. It takes time to get things done.”
A community fair will be held in Rushville Elementary West gym and cafeteria. Also, a “Block” party will be provided by Purdue University in conjunction with Rush County Extension Office and information from the Rush County Parenting Council. In addition, a health fair will be provided with information and screenings from Rush Memorial Hospital.
