Board meeting

There will be a meeting of the Rush County Solid Waste Management Board on at 8 a.m. Monday in Council Chambers in Room 212 of the Courthouse. Agenda item is the proposed transfer station. The meeting is open to the public.

Gleaners Mobile Pantry arrival

The monthly visit of the Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. March 18 at the Main Street Christian Church parking lot.

TODAY (3/7)

• Boys Scout Pack and Troop 33 will host a fish fry from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Knights of Columbus in Rushville. The cost per meal is $8.50 for adults and kids under 10 $6. Meal includes baked or fried fish, au gratin potatoes, applesauce, french fries, green beans, homemade desserts, tea, lemonade and coffee. Dine in or carry out available. Proceeds will go to help pay for camping fees and supplies. There will also be a wish list of items for the pack and troop displayed for those who wish to help in other ways. • The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will hold a dance from 6 to 8 p.m. today for elementary school students. Cost is $3 and DJ Kevin Green will provide the entertainment. Proceeds benefite the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County.


• Big Flatrock Christian Church would like to invite everyone to their annual chili supper from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. A free will offering will be accepted. Carry out will be available. Chili without spaghetti will also be available upon request. A bake sale and a silent auction will be held by the Dorcas Circle II during the meal. • Manilla Lions Club is hosting a pancake, sausage, biscuit and gravy breakfast from 6:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8 at their community building located at 2877 S 950 W, Manilla (off State Road 44). Adults $5; children 12 and under $3.

• The Richland Farmers & Farmerettes 4-H Club will be having their annual hog roast from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at the New Salem Lions Club. Meal includes: Roast hog, baked beans, slaw, potato chips, bread and butter, homemade desserts. Eat in and carry out is available. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.

SUNDAY (3/9)

• The Elks will host a breakfast buffet (all-you-can-eat) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $9.95 and includes a drink.

• The partnership of East Central Small Business Development Center, the Rush County ECDC and Rush County Chamber of Commerce is presenting a Launch Your Own Business workshop March 12. • The Homer Christian Union Church youth group will host its annual chili supper fundraiser from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on March 15. Chili, hot dogs, dessert and beverage will be available. A free will offering will be accepted and carryout is available.

• The British are coming to Fayette County. They will be performing at the Roberts Building in Roberts Park on March 15. This 28-member band, who play turn of the century brass instruments, is made up of professional musicians and a variety of current and retired band directors, firemen, doctors, and teachers including Lori Dickerson of Connersville. Crossroads Brass Band, the band in residence at Franklin College, Franklin, is one of only three such bands in Indiana. The evening will begin with a three-course dinner complete with homemade pie at 6 p.m. followed by the concert. Tickets for this event are $12.50 and can be purchased by calling Jerian Brandenburg at 825-1896. Seats are limited. Don’t miss this event. All proceeds will go to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.

• Manilla Fire Station will host a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. March 15 at the fire station. The breakfast will include biscuit and gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, bacon and a choice of beverage. Free will donations will be accepted and all monies raised will be used to assist members offset medical expenses.

SUNDAY (3/16)

• Milroy United Methodist Church will host a Chili Cook-off from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16. Four different types of chili will be available with “all the fixins.” A free will offering will be accepted and there will be a silent auction.

• National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association, Indiana Chapter 0813, has a monthly meeting at 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Ponderosa Steakhouse, corner of North Lincoln St. and Fourth St., Greensburg. Optional lunch afterward. We have guest speakers on a variety of topics, interesting programs, and items discussed. Come meet your current and retired Federal Employee comrades. • The 2014 Sewing Seminar sponsored by the Rush County Extension Homemakers will be on Saturday, March 29, with the doors opening at 8:30 .m. The seminar will be at the Root Building on the Rush County Fairgrounds. Participants may choose to attend four mini-sessions in the morning with the featured presenter, Elizabeth Burns, speaking after lunch. • At 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, Dr. Janette Fishell will present an IU Faculty Organ Recital at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6045 E. State Street, Columbus. Everyone is cordially invited, admission is free. Dr. Fishell is Professor of Music and Chair of the Organ Department at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and is a teacher/recitalist of international standing.

• The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

• In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents.

The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.

• Diabetes education classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month at Rush Memorial Hospital Skills Lab, second floor. Cost, $10 per class with a $25 refund if all three classes are attended. Info: 765-932-7416 or
