Human remains were discovered Sunday morning in Big Cedar Creek in southern Franklin County.
The skeletal remains were found near the edge of the creek by people walking along the creek near Cedar Grove, Indiana State Police Sgt. Noel Houze said in a statement.
The remains were collected by the Franklin County coroner and will be taken Monday to Cincinnati for examination by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, Houze said. DNA and other forensic testing will be done, he said.
State police investigators were at the scene most of the day Sunday searching for other clues, Houze said.
“At this point it has not been determined whether the remains are that of a male or female, an adult or a child, how long they may have been at the location or a cause of death,” Houze said. “The identification process could take several weeks.”
Assisting at the scene were Indiana Conservation Officers, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Houze said.
