RUSHVILLE — Want to get more involved and give back to your community, but you don’t know where to start?

Good news: The American Red Cross is looking for caring, committed people, who are interested in becoming local Disaster Action Team volunteers, and is offering an introductory Disaster Services Overview class from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Rushville Public Library, 130 W. Third Street.

Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers are on call to respond year-round to local emergencies such as house fires, assisting families with their immediate needs of food, clothing and shelter.

“Thanks to our trained volunteers we are able to provide immediate emergency assistance to families affected by fires, floods, ice storms and other disasters and help them get back on their feet as soon as possible,” said Lee Ann Mengelt, service center manager for the American Red Cross. Plus, the Red Cross is a great way for people to reach out to their neighbors in need and give back to their community.”

There is no charge for the training, but registration is required.

For more information or to register call the Muncie office at 765-284-3361 or 800-480-4403.
