---- — Unlike a number of counties, Rush County residents were spared from major power outages as a result of the ice, snow and sub-zero temperatures during the past weekend.
According to RushShelby vice president Dave Sheets, locally the power company was working on two “minor” outages by Tuesday.
“One (of the outages) was in the northern part of county near Sexton and involved a line down,” Sheets said.
He continued by saying the other outage was in Shelby County near Fountaintown on U.S. 52 and the outage was attributed to equipment failure and both outages were anticipated to be rectified by Tuesday afternoon.
Since Jan 5, Sunday, RushShelby reported a total 38 individual outage reports, resulting in nearly 1,100 customers being without power for some period of time. The longest power outage being in Shelby County in the rural community of Fairland. According to Sheets, the Fairland outage was caused by a system overload.
Terry Jobe, RushShelby CEO was quick to commend his employees for their response and tireless efforts to the outages.
“We work diligently each year to replace aging equipment, maintain our right of way and make system improvements. That work has created a stronger system infrastructure, better able to withstand a storm,” Jobe said.
