Treasure of the Amochlee at RPL

Library announces summer reading program

Rushville Republican

RUSHVILLE — No one knew earthly (or unearthly) treasures better than the ancient Mayans. "Amochlee" is a form of the ancient Mayan word for "book," and where better to find treasure than in books and stories? That's why the Rushville Public Library invites folks of all ages to join the summer reading program, "Treasure of the Amochlee."

Registration starts May 14 or any day after that. The program continues until July 7.

To join the hunt for the "Treasure of the Amochlee" all one needs is a library card from the Rushville Public Library, a sense of adventure, and the need for some fun this summer.

The summer reading program is open to all ages, from infants to octogenarians. RPL staffers love it when entire families join!

The summer reading program begins May 14. Special summer events begin June

6. A calendar of events is available when you come in and sign up for the

program.

Special events include preschool storytimes, programs such as crafts and treasure hunting for school-aged children, a fun lock-in with food and games for teenagers, and the return of the Titanic Event for teens and adults.

In addition to all of this, school-aged children can win prizes while they read during the summer, and everyone who completes the reading goals gets a special party and/or prize (a treasure)!

The Rushville Public Library is also pleased to announce the return of Madcap Puppets from Cincinnati.

The puppeteers will be in town at 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, at the Laughlin Center to perform their version of "Rumpelstiltskin."

This performance is free to the public and sponsored by the many fine businesses and organizations that have donated to the reading program.

Don't miss out on the treasure this summer at the Rushville Public Library. Join the hunt for the "Treasure of the Amochlee."
