RUSHVILLE — A report of smoldering fire in the bed of a truck hauling wood and other items east of Arlington on U.S. 52, was received at the Rush County Sheriff’s Department shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Responding units quickly got the vehicle stopped in the 5500 block of West U.S. 52 and informed the driver of the fire.

Volunteer fire units from both Posey Township and Carthage were dispatched to the scene and quickly had the small fire extinguished.

“The driver was hauling a load of wood and other items and must have picked up wood with a burning ember. I don’t believe he even knew of the small fire, and he said he was on his way to Fountaintown,” RCSD deputy Duane Raab said.

Once the fire was extinguished, the driver was back on his way.

No injuries or damage to the bed of the truck were reported.
