Rushville city precincts now match new city council districts

Rushville Republican

---- — In December 2012, the Rushville City Council redrew the lines for the city council districts and passed an ordinance to redistrict these districts.

The Rush County Election Board decided this would be an excellent opportunity for them to redraw the precinct lines in the city to match these districts. When the city annexed areas into the southern part of the city, it created a huge gap in the registered voters in the city precincts. Five of the precincts had between 500 and 700 voters while Precinct 3 voters numbered almost 1,100.

Last year, the County Election Board redrew the maps to exactly match the city council districts. There are now three precincts in the city of Rushville and the number of registered voters in each are: Precinct 1 - 1,369; Precinct 2 - 1,392; and Precinct 3 - 1,462.

These voters will still vote at the RSE Community Building, and they will still vote for all the officials for which they currently vote.

The clerk’s office has sent out postcards to all city voters which will state your new precinct. If all the information is correct on the card, keep it for your records. If the information needs to be updated or changed, or if you have any questions about the precinct changes, please contact the clerk’s office at 932-2086, or voter@rushcounty.in.gov.
