RUSHVILLE — The route for Saturday’s inaugural Rushville 5K walk/run was recently announced by chief of police Craig Tucker.

The staring line is located at 1st and Morgan Street and the course will continue north on Morgan Street to West 13th Street. Racers will go left (west)   and take 13th Street two blocks to North Veterans’ Memorial Park. The course then enters North Veterans’ Memorial Park and completes the

Fitness Trail loop going through Veterans’ Memorial Bridge near Main Street and returning to West 13th Street (Tony Stewart Drive). Runners/walkers then follow Lions Path south from West 13th Street to South Veterans’ Memorial Park where they will traverse the east leg of the Fitness Trail in South Veterans’ Memorial Park traveling past the gazebo on their way to West 9th Street. The course then travels east with participants returning to Morgan Street. On the return trip, participants will continue South to West Water Street where they will turn East. As participants finish up, they will turn South into the Alley behind the BP gas station and take a gradual sloping course into Riverside Park. Once inside Riverside Park, it will be a dash to the finish as runners and walkers complete one final leg back to the Finish Line near the Amphitheater.

Organizers are thrilled with pre-race interest in the event.

“I Initially thought if we get 20 participants this year that would be a good first year showing. Currently we have more than 100 entered and I’m sure there will be some walk up entrants on Saturday,” Tucker said.

Monies generated by the event will benefit the ARC of Rush County and the Alex Workman Memorial Fund.

Late registration will be available the day of the event beginning at 7:45 a.m. and continue until the 8:30 a.m. start.

Awards will be given to the top five finishers in a number of divisions: Male runner 18 and older, male runner  17 and under, female runner 18 and older, female runner 17 and under, male and female walkers 18 and older and 17 and under.

Entry fees for 18 and older with a T-shirt are $15; without a shirt $10; and $10 for those under that age of 17.
