By profession, she was the Official Court Reporter of the 37th Judicial Circuit (Franklin and Union County) from 1950 to 1960 and since then has been a “freelance reporter.” She is a registered professional reporter and served the Department as the Convention Reporter from 1960 to 2012. She was the Reporter for many years for the National American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Illinois, and the National Eight and Forty. She was also the reporter for numerous other groups.
In 1972, Helen served as secretary of the Rush County Sesquicentennial Committee.
“Helen, we, the American Legion Auxiliary, do commend you and thank you for your service to our country and service to the American Legion Auxiliary, and do congratulate you for being awarded two Sagamore of the Wabash awards – in 1984 by Gov. Robert Orr and in 1999 by Gov. Frank O’Bannon. Also, in 1968 the Indianapolis Star named Helen one of 10 outstanding women in Indiana for her accomplishments,” Butler said.
One of Moore’s most recent highlights, at the age of 93, was participating in the “Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C. to visit veteran memorials with other World War II members.
The Certificate of Excellence was presented to Moore by Department President Nancy Gunning.
