A field fire was reported shortly after noon Sunday east of Base Road on CR 350S.
First responders on the scene immediately requested mutual aid with grass rigs and tanker assistance from additional volunteer departments.
Firefighters were concerned that the wind-aided fire might spread to nearby standing corn crops.
The call resulted in multiple fire units from Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Rushville Township and Glenwood dispatched to the scene.
Shortly after 2 p.m. the fire was extinguished and hot spots were doused with water.
Motorists should not throw burning material from vehicles and rural residents should have safety measures in place when burning rubbish piles.
During fall months dry afternoon temperatures and windy or breezy conditions should also be taken into consideration when starting an outdoor fire.
