A property damage accident was reported to the Rushville Police department dispatch center shortly after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The call resulted in law enforcement personnel being sent to the 400 block of North Harrison Street.
Once on the scene officers found that a 1995 Dodge caravan had sustained extensive front end damage and was rendered inoperable.
The RPD’s newest officer, Curt Schuman, assisted officer Tim Williams during the investigation, which determined that the Dodge, driven by Amanda Foust, 22, of Rushville, was southbound on the city street behind a 1998 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck driven by Richard A. Ryse, 43, of Rushville.
After coming to a stop, Ryse began backing onto private property and failed to see the vehicle behind him.
According to Ryse, he and other workers were making home repairs at a nearby residence and were delivering supplies when, as he backed onto property at 426 North Harrison Street, he failed to see the mini-van behind him.
“I looked but simply did not see the other vehicle. I didn’t even know there was a vehicle behind me or where it came from,” Ryse said as he sat nearby while officers completed their investigation and report.
That investigation revealed that Ryse was at fault for improper backing. Ryse also was cited for no valid operator’s license as required.
Officers were relieved to find there were no injuries as a result of the accident after it was discovered that three infants were in Foust’s vehicle.
“Fortunately, all three minor passengers in the vehicle were properly restrained with infant car seats. That had an impact on the lack of injuries,” Williams said.
The Dodge was towed from the scene. The Chevrolet truck sustained only minor damage.
