Tractor-trailer strikes tree on Main Street

Shortly before 4 a.m. Monday a southbound driver’s attempt to pull over to let a northbound ambulance pass resulted in a rather odd accident.

According to investigating officer Randy Meek of the Rushville Police department, a tractor-trailer driven by John S. Rowe, 56, of Centerville, was traveling south in the 900 block of North Main Street when it yielded the right-of-way to an ambulance.

In his effort to pull to the west side of the road and stop, the 2007 International tractor-trailer struck an overhanging tree branch, causing a large portion of the tree to break.

“This resulted in the tree branch getting embedded into the trailer. The tree limb also landed on the steps of a residence, which caused some cement to break off the step,” Meek said.

The trailer sustained extensive damage to the passenger side with a section ripped back from a large limb puncturing the side. A city No Parking sign was also damaged as a result of the falling section of tree.

According to Meek, no injuries were reported and no citations were issued in the accident.
