In addition to moving forward with its planned building project (see Wednesday’s Rushville Republican), the Rush County Schools Board of Trustees also approved the personnel report as presented earlier this week.

It included one retirement, three resignations and three contracts.

Kay Rogers’ resignation was approved by the board. She had served as a secretary at Arlington Elementary for several years and at Manilla prior to that. She had 34 years of service to her credit.

Approved resignations were from Audrey Jackson, BRMS eighth-grade science teacher; Morgan Adcock, RCHS radio/television teacher; and JoEllen Winkler, RCS speech and hearing clinician.

Contracts were approved for Kelly Dungan, BRMS eighth-grade science teacher; Travis Stangland, BRMS business teacher; and Diana Schombert, Mays library aide.

The board also learned that there is one and may be another old gas well on the 15-acre site where the new Arlington Elementary School will be built.

It’s not known if either well is still producing gas; architects and personnel experienced in abandoned gas wells are scheduled to inspect the property July 1 and more information will be known following their visit to the property.

One of the wells dates back to 1910 and the other to the early 1930s. It is believed at this point in time that neither will be viable sources for providing energy to the new school.

Finally, the board agreed to meet at 6:30 p.m. July 16 for a work session in which various aspects of the building plan will be discussed.
