Units from multiple departments were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of CR 800E and Rush County Road 450S (Johnson School Road, on the Fayette Country side).
Responders found a 2006 Jeep Liberty in a nearby field southwest of the intersection and a second vehicle nearby.
Both drivers were out of their vehicles when responders arrived. A front seat passenger in the Jeep sustained what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
According to Rush County Deputy Dave Sliger, the westbound Jeep Liberty was driven by Dianna J. Selmeyer, 66, of Sulphur Springs. After coming to a stop she failed to see the southbound Dodge Caravan driven by Edwin R. Richey, 45, of Glenwood, and entered the intersection.
The deputy said that Selmeyer was distracted prior to the accident.
“She was distracted by her father and pulled out in front of the other vehicle,” Sliger said.
The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles and injured Selmeyer’s father, Delbert Hedrick, 82, a front seat passenger in her vehicle. Following treatment at the scene, Hedrick was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital for what were described as unspecified but non-life threatening injuries.
A third passenger, an unidentified minor in Selmeyer’s vehicle, was uninjured. Neither Richey nor the two passengers in his vehicle sustained injury.
The force of the collision caused the Jeep to pass through the intersecting roads and into a nearby field on the southwest side of the connecting roads. Richey’s came to rest in the eastbound lane of CR 450S.
Responding to the accident were units from the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department, RCSD, RMH Ambulance and Davis Towing
