Rush County Sheriff Jeff Sherwood recently announced that again this year the law enforcement agency will be a sponsor of the Indiana Youth Leadership Camp.

The camp will be held in two sessions. The first, June 23 to 25, will serve the northern part of the state and be held at Ross Camp in Lafayette. A second camp will serve the southern part of the state and be held July 7 to 9 at Waycross Episcopal Camp in Morgantown.

“I think the leadership camp is an outstanding opportunity for those students that are interested in a possible law enforcement career,” Sherwood said.

The Sheriff’s Leadership Camp is a program provided by the Indiana Sheriff’s Association that is open to boys and girls who currently are in seventh and eighth grade and are interested in learning more about a possible career in law enforcement.

The camp provides meaningful experiences and relationships with other campers from throughout the state and sheriff officers, who serve as both counselors and instructors.

Any middle school student interested in attending should contact the Rush County Sheriff’s Department or their school counselor for an application as well as additional information.

Sherwood said arrangements can be made to provide the registration fee through local business or civic organizations.

Applications must be completed and returned to the RCSD no later than 5 p.m. June 16.
