News regarding the Rushville Police Department dominated this week’s meeting of the Rushville Board of Works.
It was reported that Rushville Police Department Detective Mike Jessup resigned effective immediately and Officer Shawn Grocox also resigned, with his last day in a squad car being Friday.
On Jessup’s situation, Chief Ron Cameron had the following to say: “Things weren’t working out with him as a detective, so I removed him from that capacity and put him as a supervisor on the late shift,” he said. “Apparently that didn’t work out either.”
Cameron related to the board that Officer Grocox had received his former job back at an Indianapolis steel mill.
In other news, it was reported that the RPD’s newest hire, Brent Campbell of Brookville, passed all of his PERF testing, including his physical and psychological tests. The department is waiting on the PERF doctor to sign off on paperwork, and Campbell should start with the department in the very near future.
RPD dispatcher and reserve officer Cale Worley was also recommended before the Board of Works to be RPD’s newest hire. Worley did his internship with RPD through high school and has been on the reserve force for a year and a half.
“I feel that this young man is very capable,” Cameron said. “He recently applied for a position in Brookville, and thankfully for us, they did not hire him, giving the job instead to an officer who had been helping them out for a long time. Cale must go through the Academy within 12 months, but we’re looking forward to having him on board in this aspect.”
