The Rush County Schools Board of Trustees met Tuesday night and one matter of business addressed involved hiring a new principal for Rushville Consolidated High School.
Matthew Vance, a Rushville Consolidated High School graduate, has been employed by the board of school trustees for the position of principal of RCHS beginning with the 2008-2009 school year.
Superintendent of schools Dr. John Williams said Vance brings to this position a wealth of experience as a teacher, coach, athletic director and building level administrator.
Most recently he has been principal of Tri Junior-Senior High School, which is part of the South Henry School Corporation.
“Mr. Vance’s background, leadership style and desire to be the best will challenge our students and staff to achieve new heights and have a good time doing so,” Dr. Williams said. “Our theme for the year has been ‘Making A Difference.’ We have every reason to believe Mr. Vance will truly make a difference. All one has to do is talk with Matt Vance for a minute and you can see his desire to help young people.”
Vance is married to the former Jamie Herrell, also an RCHS graduate, and they are the parents of two young sons, Austin and Jacob. They reside in northern Rush County.
In other school-related news, the board approved a couple of contracts associated with the proposed building project.
One was to hire a firm needed to do required soil bore testing and the other dealt with a lease rental agreement.
“This is the agreement that says we’ve agreed to pay our lease rental amounts to the holding company. They’re the people who go out and get the bonds and they, essentially, are the owners of the building until we pay off the bonds,” Dr. Williams said. “This is simply the next logical legal step in the process.”
