Rushville Chief of Police Ron Cameron recently announced that patrolman Craig M. Tucker has been promoted to the rank of corporal.

Tucker is a lifelong resident of Rush County and is the son of Richard and Laura Tucker of Arlington. He graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School with an Academic Honors diploma in 1999. Following graduation from RCHS he attended Franklin College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology in 2003.

During the fall of 2003 Tucker began his employment with the RPD. He graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in July 2004, at which time he became a third shift patrolman with the law enforcement department.

“Since receiving the promotion I have taken on a number of additional duties with the department,” Tucker said.

The officer does the majority of grant writing for the department and currently serves as the liaison between the RPD and reserve officers.

As a result of his extended training and academic achievements, Tucker received a Letter of Wavier from the Indiana Training Board and is a “STOPS” instructor. He currently serves as the department’s Field Training Officer and is a Certified Chemical Breath Test Operator, Certified Fire I and II Instructor, Certified Medical Technician and a Certified Tactical Medic from the FMH School of Tactical Medicine.

“Corporal Tucker is a great asset not only to the department but to this community,” Cameron said.

During the past five years Tucker has also attended various training programs and seminars including Interviewing and Interrogation Techniques, Hazardous Materials Operations, Legal Aspects of Search and Seizure and Search and Rescue Operations.

Given his extensive training one might wonder why he has chosen to remain in Rush County and not moved on to a larger community.

“I like that this is a smaller community, and when you do something you can see the impact on what you have done,” Tucker said.
