Young "ambassador" needs assistance

Rushville Republican

RUSHVILLE — Dear Rush County residents:

My name is Meghan Elizabeth Barnes. I am currently a freshman at RCHS. I am seeking sponsors for my People to People Mediterranean Tour this coming summer of 2013.

People to People is an organization founded in 1956 by former President Dwight Eisenhower. It continues today because we believe our children are “our most important national resource.” Our children are engaged in a wider world than you and I could ever imagine and the things they learn are quickly translated into compassionate action such as raising awareness for issues half a world away.

It is the goal of my family to earn the $7,000 necessary for me to travel with this amazing group. I have earned approximately $2,100 of the $7,000 required to travel. With your financial assistance I will spend 21 memorable days traveling from Italy through Southern France and finally Spain. I will spend my time exploring a new part of the world, interacting with other cultures, completing educational projects and enjoying team building activities. Some of the service projects People to People ambassadors have participated in include riverbank restoration, building schools in areas such as Costa Rica, teaching children English in China, keeping the elderly warm in Ireland and visiting the beaches of Normandy to remember our fallen heroes.

Please help me as I represent Rush County, USA, in promoting international understanding and global awareness. We, as ambassadors, are going to change the world! If you feel you or your organization would be willing to assist me in reaching my dream, an account has been set up in my name at MainSource Bank (north side branch). When I return to the states I would be honored to speak with you or your organization about my amazing experience. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Meghan Barnes
