Parade route change not needed

Dear Editor:

I believe Rushville Police Chief Ron Cameron greatly overreacted in moving the Fourth of July parade from its traditional route up Main Street.

The story about the changed parade route appeared in Tuesday's edition of the Rushville Republican. If one travels up Main Street today, one will find that there is very little construction work going on, with only one small area where the thoroughfare might be slightly narrower than usual.

The chief cites various "safety and convenience" concerns. As a regular user of Main Street, I see no such problems at this time and predict the situation won't change that much between today, Tuesday, and the two more working days until July 4.

I'm convinced that the parade route should have remained in its traditional and much more desirable location.

Thank you,

Norman D. Voiles
