Mayor responds to recent letter
Dear Editor:
Surprise? Why not!
I would like to respond to the insulting letter from Jim Huston. He has made it clear to all who read it that he is a true supporter of the former administration. Thus it is no surprise that his criticism of me takes precedence over his concern for water quality.
His insinuation that I would conjure up problems within the City just to win an election is offensive to say the least.
He calls me incompetent, yet he speaks without knowing the facts about the “Boil Water Advisory.”
The real problems with the advisory stem directly from those left over from the former administration.
I used to work at the Utilities and I know that, when the tank is down, you must man the pressure gauges on a 24 hour basis and keep the pressure above 20 pounds in order to prevent the need for a “Boil Water Advisory.” Had I been informed that the tank was to be drained and serviced and had I been consulted about a “Boil Water Advisory” things would have been handled correctly. However, I was not advised nor were any utility board members. Nor were we consulted when the decision was made not to man the pressure gauges, but instead to do the advisory. I would never have approved this and I was very unhappy when I learned that this decision was made merely to save a few dollars in overtime. And, by the way, Mr. Huston, I learned about this shortly before you did.
I have always been concerned for the citizens of Rushville and always will be. And they do not deserve to be subjected to a “Boil Water Advisory” just because someone in Utility management wants to save a few dollars.
This was a poor judgment call and I didn’t make it.
I do apologize to all residents and businesses for the problems caused by this decision. The good news is that both water samples came back negative.
And to you Mr. Huston, if you find this administration so intolerable, then maybe you should remove yourself from its shadow, lest you be tainted by it. I call for your resignation from the Rushville Historic Board.
Sincerely,
Mayor Merv Bostic
