As the weather changes we need to be creative in seeking ways to exercise and stay fit. This month the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County offers two special FIT Walkabout Christmas tours. Local churches have opened their doors for tours. Between climbing stairs and walking between the churches we can include a workout with an enjoyable Christmas activity.
On Dec. 17, the special Christmas tour will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Education Building of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 426 N. Morgan Street, Rushville. Tour guides will escort participants through the Education Building and over to the main Worship Building. St. Paul’s museum on the second floor will be open as well as the basement and the beautifully decorated sanctuary. Several flights of stairs will contribute to the fitness portion of the walkabout. Participants will be able to choose their level of involvement. After touring St. Paul’s walkers will travel north to visit Main Street Christian Church. This building offers a combination of old and new and is decorated for the Advent season. The walkabout will finish with the return to the parked cars.
Two walkabouts are planned to utilize the indoor walking spaces in Rush County. On Wednesday, Dec. 12, meet at 7 a.m. for a morning walk at the Courthouse – Inside or Outside, depending upon the weather. The Courthouse is available for walkers Monday – Friday 7 – 8 a.m. and 4 – 5 p.m. It will be closed on Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1. Memorial Gymnasium is another option for inside walking. Meet at 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot across from Rushville Consolidated High School. These hikes include Dec. 27 and Jan. 3. Anytime Fitness in Rushville continues to extend their offer for anyone participating in the FIT Walkabouts (even for the first time) to visit on Fridays at 4 p.m. You may walk on the treadmill or try other equipment. The Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County wants to encourage our residents to move, be active and stay fit. The scheduled Walkabouts provide the opportunity to walk with others and times and places to include on your calendar. Whether you walk indoors or outside, make the effort to keep moving during this busy holiday season. Questions about the FIT Walkabouts can be directed to Purdue Extension, Rush County at 932-5974 or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
