RUSHVILLE — Douglas Morrell, M.D., a family medicine physician with a practice in Rushville, was elected by his peers to represent them on the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) Board of Trustees. He is the trustee for the organization’s 6th District that includes Fayette, Franklin, Hancock, Henry, Rush, Shelby, Union and Wayne counties. The ISMA is divided into 13 Indiana districts and elected physician representatives from each district comprise the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Morrell, an ISMA member since 1978, took the oath to begin his tenure during activities surrounding the ISMA’s 163rd Annual Convention, Sept. 14-16 in Indianapolis. The convention allows physician delegates from counties around the state to not only elect leaders, but also to set an action agenda for the coming year.

Previously, Dr. Morrell fulfilled two terms as an alternate trustee and served on the organization’s Commission on Legislation. His new term as trustee is for three years, ending in 2015.

A graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Morrell is board certified in family medicine. He is also a member of the Rush County Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

Since 1849, the ISMA has worked to promote sound health care policy in the public, private and governmental sectors and to support continuing medical education for Indiana doctors. Today, the ISMA has approximately 7,900 physician members.
