Rotarians enjoy Christmas gathering

Continuing long-time cooperation, the Rushville and Connersville Rotary Clubs had a joint meeting and Christmas party at Flatrock Grill Monday evening. Sixty members and spouses of both clubs were there and had a very enjoyable evening. Rushville was host this year and Connersville will be next year.

Rushville Rotary Club President Norm Voiles had something of a difficult time keeping the rowdy crowd quiet and under control. After introductions by those attending, the Sergeant at Arms for the Rushville Club, Dr. John Williams, and of the Connersville club, our old friend Carl Hylton, joined together to fine most everyone present.

Before Carl and John were set loose on the joint meeting Shelly King had Brag for a Buck and several from both clubs took advantage to brag on various things. Bill Ward bragged on grandson Brennan, who is a member of the entertainment for the evening (the RCHS Madrigal Singers). Fellow Rotarian Chip West also had a son with the Madrigals. Then Carl and John hit up just about everyone there. Carl is a former president of the Rushville Club and this was pay back for him. He and John took turns fining. Bill Ward was fined by Carl for his newspaper articles about Carl when he was president of Rushville Rotary. We miss you, Carl, but not your idea of fines!

The highlight of the evening was when the Rushville Consolidated High School Madrigal Singers, in full regalia, entertained the joint clubs. As always, the Madrigals were outstanding and did a very good job of singing and entertaining. One number brought out the ham in several of the boys of the Madrigals and it was most entertaining and funny. After several songs they ended with a modern song by the remaining members of the Beatles and it was wonderful. Thank you, Madrigals and Mr. Grizzard, for coming and entertaining our clubs; you were great, as always.

The youngsters of the Madrigals show us just how wonderful the younger generation can be and they did us all proud. We in Rush County are indeed lucky to have such talented and enjoyable young people who like to sing and entertain. Our school system is much better than we, at times, give them credit for. You would be surprised at some of the many activities our young people are involved in and how entertaining and good they are.

The Rushville Rotary and Connersville Rotary wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and best of New Years.
