n As part of GOING LOCAL Week, the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service Rush County will be serving as a drop-off point for fresh produce to be donated to the Rush County Community Assistance Food Pantry. Now through Friday those with excess produce can drop them off at the Purdue Extension Office on the first floor of the Rush County Courthouse, Room 103. From your abundance help make it possible for all Indiana residents to eat locally grown or produced food. Call 765-932-5974 with questions.

WEDNESDAY (9/9)

n Arlington School is celebrating its 100th year in education! In honor of the event, the PTO is having spirit wear printed with the years 1909-2009 on the items. If any alumni would like to purchase a T-shirt or sweatshirt, stop by the school to pick up an order form or call Julie Leisure at 565-6236 for details. Orders will be placed Wednesday, so don't delay in making your request. Checks should be made payable to the Arlington PTO, and the prepaid items will be ready to be picked up at the school by the end of September.

n Rushville Music Study Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Carolyn Keith. Please RSVP Carolyn by Sept. 4 if planning to attend.

n The Hint Hunters Homemakers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Janiece Byrne. Cohostess is Anna Rouse. Betty Fleenor will have the lesson. The roll call is “Labor Day Traditions”

THURSDAY (9/10)

n New Salem Lions Club Appreciation Supper will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the New Salem Lions Club building. Everyone welcome. This is the club’s way to thank the community for all the support at the fair and annual auction.

n Rush County Democrat meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, First and Morgan Streets, Rushville. All interested persons are invited to attend. All precinct persons are urged to attend. We will be discussing the upcoming parade and Jefferson Jackson Day dinner.

n All Local UAW 1118 who are drawing a pension from the union are invited to a retiree pitch-in lunch at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Eastside Methodist Church in Connersville. Bring a filled covered dish. Drinks, plates, etc. will be provided. Come alone or bring a spouse/friend. Widows also welcome. It’s a casual event so come, relax and enjoy.
